The Giacomo Ganzerli Trio is a project founded in 2024, featuring Michele Bonifati on guitar, Daniele Nasi on tenor saxophone, and Giacomo Ganzerli on drums.

The trio’s debut album, The Art of Leaving Blankness, was released on January 18, 2026, by nusica.org. Following its release, the project embarked on an extensive international tour, performing more than 40 concerts across Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Japan. This intense touring activity has quickly established the trio as one of the most active emerging ensembles on the contemporary European jazz scene, bringing its music to renowned jazz clubs, festivals, and concert series throughout Europe and Asia.

The album presents a modern jazz language that blends moments of free improvisation with electronic soundscapes. After many years performing as a sideman in a wide variety of artistic contexts, Ganzerli felt the need to create a project that could fully represent his personal musical vision as a bandleader and composer.

All the compositions on the album were written by Ganzerli over the past few years. They are melodic and essential pieces with a strong identity, each inspired by a real experience: a book, a meaningful place, a person, or a memory. Every composition carries its own narrative dimension, making this record a particularly significant milestone in the artist’s creative journey.

The title of the album was inspired by the trio’s tour in China, where they performed in Shanghai. During that stay, Ganzerli encountered the Chinese concept of Liubai, a term used in various artistic disciplines—from painting to music—as well as in everyday life. It refers to the importance of leaving space for others, listening to silence, allowing emptiness to communicate, and understanding that the white space on a canvas can become snow.

This idea lies at the heart of the trio’s aesthetic and compositional approach. The music embraces restraint as an expressive force, seeking beauty in what is left unsaid as much as in what is played. It is this shared artistic vision that gives shape to The Art of Leaving Blankness.
