Giacomo Ganzerli Trio
The Giacomo Ganzerli Trio is a project founded in 2024, featuring Michele Bonifati on guitar, Daniele Nasi on tenor saxophone and myself on drums.
The debut album of my project is titled “The Art of Leaving Blankness” and will be released on January 18, 2026, under the label nusica.org.
Following the release, a confirmed tour is scheduled, featuring approximately 25 concerts across Europe and Japan. This is a modern jazz album that blends moments of free improvisation with electronic soundscapes. I feel the need to create this project because, after many experiences as a sideman, the time has come for me to present a work that fully represents me as a bandleader and composer.
The tracks on this album were all composed by me over the past few years: they are melodic, essential compositions with a strong identity. Each piece originates from a real experience: a book, a meaningful place, a person, a memory. I believe that each of these pieces carries a unique story to tell, and it is precisely this narrative dimension that makes the release of this album a particularly meaningful milestone in my artistic journey.
The title of the album was inspired by my most recent trip to China with the trio, when we performed in Shanghai in March of this year. While there, I came across a Chinese word pronounced “Liubai.” It’s a term that can be applied to many fields, from painting to music, and even to everyday life. It represents the importance of leaving space for others, of listening to silence, of allowing emptiness to exist and to communicate, of letting the white space on a canvas become snow.
This concept is central to the spirit of these compositions, which are all guided by the same underlying idea: “The Art of Leaving Blankness”.
This project is funded in part by the Pathways To Jazz grant, in partnership with Music For Love.
